Pathway to Vitality - Educated
This series of blog posts examines my personal journey to health after being diagnosed with a progression of chronic health conditions. In my previous post in this series, I mentioned how I had a revelation. My own eureka moment where I realized that the path I was on was headed in the wrong direction. What I needed now was more knowledge.
Educated
I started reading books and searching the internet for all available information on healing. This lead me to learning about alternative medicine, nutrition, and more. I found many great articles on things like:
- GERD (and managing acid reflux naturally)
- SIBO (overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut)
- Candida Overgrowth
- Leaky Gut
- Food Allergies and Intolerances
- Autoimmune disorders
I read about all of the above. They fit my symptoms perfectly. Over time, I followed a number of special diets and took a variety of supplements. While I did show improvement, I was far from healed. Many of these protocols created more questions than answers for me.
The frustration of sifting through so much information lead me to obtaining a fellowship in Functional Medicine. I was adding formal education in root cause healing, with a scientific base, to my personal journey and my anecdotal knowledge.
What's Next
We'll finish looking at the 5 stages in my journey and reflect on how those relate to the general pathway to vitality. Also check out our in-depth articles on preventing and healing chronic diseases utilizing a Functional Medicine approach.
