Milk thistle extract for liver support
Helps to detoxify and provide antioxidant support for the liver
May also improve your cholesterol levels
Silymarin is a milk thistle extract that nutritionally supports liver function. This highly active botanical protects the liver from free radical damage, supports glutathione concentrations and promotes superoxide dismutase activity. Milk thistle extract also stimulates protein synthesis in hepatic cells.
Milk thistle benefits work by drawing toxins out of the body that can cause a range of symptoms and diseases including cancer, high cholesterol, diabetes, kidney stones, gall bladder disorders, negative effects of chemotherapy, alcohol use, skin damage and much more.
It also works as an antioxidant to help prevent free radical damage. It contains high levels of lipophilic extracts which act as bioflavanoid antioxidants to increase immunity and slow down oxidative stress.
Milk thistle is best known for being a natural detoxifier and to support the liver. The liver works to clear toxins from the body by filtering and removing harmful substances. Milk thistle is shown to decrease, or even reverse, damage to the liver that can result from prescription medications, pollution, heavy metals and other toxins.
As a precaution, antioxidants have been shown to possibly interfere with some cancer chemotherapy drugs by protecting cancer cells from death, so if you are being treated for cancer you should talk with your doctor about any supplements.
There is one interesting study in patients with Acne vulgaris where patients taking Silymarin at an oral dosage of 210mg/day, for at least 8 weeks saw a 53% reduction in total lesion counts.
