This product contains betaine and pepsin. Betaine, is also known as Trimethylglycine (TMG). The main mechanisms of betaine are either as a methyl donor, where it can donate a methyl group, supporting methylation or it can increase body levels of SAMe or active folate molecules, which can then donate methyl groups.

Brief overview of methylation:

Methylation is the process of taking a single carbon and three hydrogens, known as a methyl group, and applying it to countless critical functions in your body such as: thinking, repairing DNA, turning on and off genes, fighting infections and getting rid of environmental toxins to name a few.

Methylation defects are tied to a wide variety of conditions including diabetes, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, cancer, autism, allergies and chemical sensitivities, atherosclerosis, Hashimoto’s, ADD or ADHD, multiple sclerosis, autoimmune disorders and more. Studies show that betaine is an osmolyte, meaning it regulates water balance in cells and improves cell hydration and resilience to stressors. Betaine can also directly methylate homocysteine, which is cardioprotective. As previously mentioned, it also indirectly affects folate and SAMe metabolism to support whole body methylatioin. Betaine has been found to reduce homocysteine by 10% in people with normal levels or by 20-40% in people with elevated homocysteine levels. The dose in the study used to reduce homocysteine is 3g per day.

Dosage and use
