The Impact of Toxins on Health and Weight

The Impact of Toxins on Health and Weight

A common New Year’s resolution is weight loss however Vitopia encourages patients to avoid weight loss diets and instead focus on improving overall health.  When you identify underlying health issues and take corrective action, you almost always lose weight.  Not only do the extra pounds come off but they tend to stay off.  As an added benefit, you can resolve health issues and avoid chronic diseases both now and in the future.

One of the best places to start is lowering your body’s toxic burden.  Conventional medicine is slowly starting to acknowledge what alternative medicine has long said: toxicity is an important health issue. Numerous studies show toxins to be the underlying cause of many chronic conditions, including the rising rates of cancer over the past two decades.

This article is Part One of a weekly Toxin series throughout January.  The goals of this series are to help you better understand the impact of toxins and to provide you with actionable ways of lowering your body’s toxin burden thus improving your overall health.

The Standard American Diet (SAD) & Environmental Toxins

The typical American diet favors processed foods that are high in unhealthy fat, sugar, salt, and numerous chemicals.  Processed foods often contain pesticides and artificial ingredients that can contribute to toxin buildup.

US Statistics

  • 80,000 chemicals are registered for use
  • 800 million pounds of herbicides are used per year
  • 167 industrial chemicals are found in adults with no employment related exposure

Exogenous toxins

(these come in through our environment):

  • Pesticides and insecticides
  • Air and water pollutants
  • Preservatives and additives
  • Certain household cleaning products
  • Cigarette smoke
  • Dyes and paints
  • Certain personal care products
  • Heavy metals

Endogenous toxins

(these come from the body’s natural processes):

  • Carbon dioxide
  • Ammonia
  • Free radicals

Guided group detoxification event

We will also wrap up January with a guided group detoxification event which covers many aspects of detoxification and provides a step-by-step approach, along with an opportunity to ask questions and gain in-depth knowledge.  This event is held approximately four times per year.  If you are interested in learning more about the Guided Group Detoxification event, including dates and times, please contact us for details.
